What is UpUrAlley?

UpUrAlley is the easy way to live, work, and play. We (to find out who "we" are, see the "Who We Are" section below) have created a site with sections for rental listings, job openings, business directories, upcoming events, restaurant reviews, and more so that you can use UpUrAlley in the way that makes life easier for you. And your neighbour can use it in the way that makes life easier for him or her. And then, if you'd like, you can use it to easily make your neighbour a part of your life.

In short, UpUrAlley is the online community about your community.

Who We Are

MELISSA Way back when moving to Australia was just a twinkle in her eye, Melissa logged on to Craigslist.com (a directory of jobs, rentals, and items for sale in her home town of Santa Barbara, California, and beyond) to help with herself with her dreaming about the funky little studio she'd one day inhabit in Australia's Fitzroy or Carlton area. To her dismay, not only was there not a thing to be found in Fitzroy or Carlton but there was almost nothing listed for anywhere in Oz! Things did not get brighter on the housing front even when Australia was no longer a twinkle in her eye. She was disappointed to find that there wasn't a way for people – real people, not real estate firms or temp agencies – in the Melbourne area to come together and exchange knowledge and goods. And that's when another twinkle started flickering...

While making UpUrAlley.com a reality, Melissa has also been working on her Masters in Publishing and Communications, freelance editing, watching The West Wing, practicing yoga, dabbling in the art of small-kitchen cooking, loving Australian shiraz, missing California zinfandel, and exploring Melbourne and its surrounds.

JULIA Julia has dabbled in many areas of writing and publishing. She's been part of the Voiceworks and Melbourne Writers' Festival teams, and currently runs a small magazine called harvest. Julia's written a fair few educational things, including a set of digital resources for The Le@rning Federation. She has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and a Diploma of Arts (Professional Writing and Editing), and is currently studying a Master in Publishing and Communications. Right now she works as an editor at Macmillan Education, but is soon to begin as an editor with Penguin Books. Wish her luck!

BRIONY Briony, who has been on a steady roll down the eastern coast of Australia for most of her life, likes Melbourne and is sticking with it. Like Melissa, she is completing her Masters in Publishing and Communications.
